What is most important to me is providing people with clear, beautifully engraved scores that encourage people to want to make better music. If music-making begins with a score, we want ours to be well-crafted, with attention to detail and scholarship — scores that will last and help create meaningful, artistic experiences. Michael Wolniakowski

tempo 1º press

Founded by Michael Wolniakowski in 2014, tempo 1˚ press exists for the cultivation of new music and neglected works from the past. The main goal of this new publishing house is to add distinctive, high-quality musical literature to the professional repertoire.

Wolniakowski made the decision to start tempo 1˚ press for a number of reasons. For years, he has found engraving, typography, and score preparation fascinating (odd, but true!). In addition, his background as a conductor, organist, accompanist, and vocal music educator, has put him in touch with many works by composers that remain unpublished — great music that should be in the hands of singers, instrumentalists, and conductors.

tempo 1˚ press launches with the publication of sacred choral works by Paul Bouman. It is the aim of Wolniakowski and his staff to expand the catalog to include both secular and sacred works, as well as instrumental works — both for keyboard and orchestra — over the next few years.
